Netherland Dwarf Bunny Rabbit

R1,500.00

The Netherland Dwarf is a breed of domestic rabbit that originated in the Netherlands and is one of the smallest rabbit breeds you can buy. The Netherland Dwarf’s head and eyes are disproportionately large with respect to its short-coupled and stout body.

Its ears are notably short and carried high on the head and its face is rounded. These neotenic features, a result of dwarfism, cause the Netherland Dwarf to retain an infantile appearance even into adulthood.

Description

Netherland Dwarf bunny rabbits in South Africa are usually small, reaching an average adult weight of less than 1kg. They have short coats and weekly grooming should be enough to keep their coat in top condition. As a breed, generally, they can be quite timid and can be easily frightened.

Netherland Dwarf Bunnies Are Social Creatures

It’s important to also remember that rabbits are highly social animals, and in the wild are used to living in large groups with a vast living area. Where possible, this needs to be recreated for our domestic bunnies, and living with a suitable companion has to be at the top of this list. We recommend homing rabbits in compatible pairs, for example, a neutered male with a neutered female.

Can My Bunny Sleep With Me?

Conventional wisdom suggests that bunny rabbits sleep in a hutch at night. But small animals, such as rabbits, like to sleep next to their owners. They enjoy soft bedding, warmth, and companionship. If your bunny wants to sleep with you and can do so safely, it’s fine. If you’re prepared to risk losing sleep, sharing a bed with a rabbit will deepen your bond. Just remember that rabbits like routine. You can’t share your bed some nights but not others. That will only serve to confuse them.

How Much Does a Netherland Dwarf Bunny Rabbit Cost?

The cost of a Netherland dwarf rabbit in Cape Town will depend on the exact type. Most dwarf rabbits, commonly the Netherland Dwarf, can be adopted for R900 to R1500, with the exception of show-quality rabbits. Higher quality baby rabbits, depending on the colors, markings, where you live and the breeder, can cost as much as R2000 to R3000.
